Description
Barchester Towers is a novel by English author Anthony Trollope published by Longmans in 1857. It is the second book in the Chronicles of Barsetshire series, preceded by The Warden and followed by Doctor Thorne.
The book is about the bureaucratic divide between England’s high and low Anglican churches. It demonstrates how the power of the church relates to the political power of the state in England and how members of both institutions maneuver to secure positions of greater prestige and authority.
