The Last Days of Pompeii is an 1834 historical novel by Edward Bulwer-Lytton that follows life and romance in the doomed Roman city leading up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The novel was inspired by the painting The Last Day of Pompeii by the Russian painter Karl Briullov, which Bulwer-Lytton had seen in Milan.
